Chemex

The Chemex is as beautiful as it is easy to use. Loved by many coffee lovers it’s grown into a modern classic over the last two decades. Brew your coffee in the top half, watch it collect below, and then lift the filter to reveal a stunning decanter ready to pour and impress. Simple and elegant.

Simple Instructions

Step 1: Fold the Chemex filter according to package directions, placing the thick side toward the spout. Rinse it with hot water to warm the Chemex, then discard the rinse water.

Step 2: Weigh 40g (about 6 tablespoons) of coffee and grind it to a coarse setting.

Step 3: Place the grounds in the Chemex, set it on a scale, and reset the scale to zero.

Step 4: Pour 100g of hot water slowly in a circular motion, making sure all the grounds are wet. Stir gently with a stir stick and let it bloom for 30 seconds.

Step 5: Once a crust forms on the coffee, pour another 250g of water slowly in circles, breaking up the crust.

Step 6: When the water level drops about half an inch, add the remaining 310g of water, bringing the total to 640g. The entire pouring process should take 2–2.5 minutes.

Step 7: Let the coffee finish filtering, then remove and compost the filter. Pour yourself a cup and enjoy!
